Does my auto insurance policy cover rental vehicles?
Yes! At MetLife Auto & Home®, the same coverages you have on your present auto policy also apply to any cars you rent. So, for example, if you have collision and comprehensive coverages on your current auto policy, you’ll also have them when you're renting a car for vacation, a pick-up truck for moving, or a substitute vehicle while yours is in the shop. Be warned, though: Other insurance companies may not cover rental cars automatically.

I was involved in an accident while driving a rental car. Now the rental agency says I have to pay for expenses it incurred while the car is out of service for repairs. Does my insurance cover these expenses?
Yes, through our Enhanced Rental Car Damage Coverage. If you have an accident with a rental car, this protects you from these "surprise" costs that the rental companies often demand:
• Rental income lost while the rental car was being repaired
• Claim handling expenses
• The decrease in the market value of that rental auto
• Expenses, such as towing and storage of the damaged rental auto

Most other companies' auto insurance polices will repair the rental car, but they won't cover these hidden costs. These costs could end up being your responsibility. We don't believe you should have to pay for hidden costs, and we will protect you against having to pay for these expenses out of your own pocket.

Car rental companies always urge me to buy extra insurance protection on a rental. Isn't this covered under my automobile insurance policy?
The coverages you have on your present auto policy also apply to cars you rent. But if you don't carry collision or comprehensive on at least one insured vehicle, you may not have these coverages on a rental car, depending on state law. To be safe, check with your agent or call MetLife Auto & Home's customer service center to confirm your coverages.

My car has been stolen. Will my insurance pay for a rental car for me?
If you have purchased optional Substitute Transportation coverage, you'll be reimbursed for your rental car. This coverage ends if your car is recovered or if a predetermined amount of time has passed.
