Health Care Coverage: Medical and dental coverage is available for employees and eligible dependents on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment. The Company offers a variety of health plans from which to choose including PPO and POS plans, a high deductible health plan (HDHP). And HMO’s depending on your location. Employees may choose from two scheduled dental plans. MetLife covers the majority of the medical and dental plan premiums. Employees pay their portion on a pre-tax basis.
Company-Paid and Optional Life Insurance: Life insurance coverage for MetLife employees begins on their first day at work. MetLife pays the cost of insurance equal to one times eligible annual pay. Employees may purchase additional group term or Group Variable Universal Life insurance and/or voluntary accidental death and dismemberment coverage up to nine times eligible pay effective 31 days from date of hire. Employees may also purchase coverage for their spouse and children.
Short-Term and Long-Term Disability: MetLife offers income protection at no cost in the event an employee becomes disabled. The short-term disability benefit is between 50% and 100% of pay (based on employee classification and years of continuous service) for up to six months of an approved disability. Should the disability continue for longer than six months, MetLife provides long-term disability (LTD) coverage in the amount of 50% of eligible pay up to a specified maximum. For the first five years of continuous service, the maximum duration of LTD is based on years of continuous service prior to the date of disability. Management and experienced representatives (as determined by MetLife) are eligible for LTD on date of hire with proof of prior group coverage or satisfactory Statement of Health. Financial Services Representatives are eligible for LTD generally after two years of continuous service.
Savings & Investment Plan (SIP): On their first day at MetLife, employees may start contributing to SIP from 3% to 40% of eligible pay (subject to Plan and IRS limits) on a before-tax 401(k) basis, Roth 401(k) basis, after-tax basis or any combination. Employees may choose from a variety of investment options. If they save at least 3% of eligible pay in SIP, MetLife makes a matching contribution of 4% of eligible pay beginning on the first day of the month after completion of one full year of service. Employees with saving in previous employer’s qualified plans may be eligible to roll over these funds to SIP following their hire date.
Retirement Plan: You are eligible for the Personal Retirement Account (PRA) at no cost on the first of the month after one year of employment (if you are at least age 21). MetLife will credit your interest-bearing PRA each month with 5% of your eligible pay up to the Social Security wage base and 10% in excess of the Social Security wage base. When you retire or otherwise leave the Company after vesting in this benefit, you may elect to have your benefits paid out in a lump sum or under various annuity options.
Flexible Spending Account: Employees have an option of participating in a health care and a dependent care flexible spending account (FSA). The Health Care FSA allow participants to set aside money from each paycheck (up to $7,500 annually) on a pre-tax basis to pay eligible health care expenses for themselves and any dependents they claim on their Federal tax return. The Dependent Care FSA provides for employees to set aside money from each paycheck (up to $5,000) annually on a pre-tax basis to pay eligible dependent care expenses.
Legal Services: Employees may elect to participate in a group prepaid legal services plan which provides legal services through a network of participating plan attorneys for will, real estate matters, and document review and preparation, to name a few.
Long-Term Care: Employees may purchase long-term care coverage at group rates for themselves, spouses, parents and parents-in-law. Various types and levels of coverage are available as well as non-forfeiture and inflation protection features.
