This is a time period when babies seem to get into everything! Many can stand, sit or even walk without falling down. With increased capabilities comes increased defiance. Your requests or commands may be met with a resounding, "no." Babies this age are eager to explore and become frustrated at being confined to strollers, car seats and high chairs.
During this stage, babies make a move toward real speech. They may mimic your speech and are able to equate objects with words. To help develop language skills, it’s important to encourage your child’s attempts.
Safety checks for the tenth, eleventh and twelfth months:
- Be sure to install safety gates wherever appropriate.
- Always stay with your baby when near water.
- Limit outside play area within fences and gates when your baby is not under direct and close adult supervision.
