Biography

David Satcher, M.D., Ph.D., age 67, is the Director of the Center of Excellence on Health Disparity at the Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM), where he also occupies the Poussaint-Satcher-Cosby Chair in Mental Health. From December 2004 to July 2006, Dr. Satcher served as the President of MSM. From September 2002 to December 2004, Dr. Satcher was the Director of the National Center for Primary Care at MSM. Dr. Satcher completed his four-year term as the 16th Surgeon General of the United States in February 2002, after which he served as a Senior Visiting Fellow with the Kaiser Family Foundation until he assumed the post of Director of the National Center for Primary Care. Dr. Satcher served as the U. S. Assistant Secretary for Health from 1998 to January 2001, and from 1993 to 1998, he was the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the administrator of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. Dr. Satcher is a member of the Board of Directors of Johnson & Johnson and the Kaiser Family Foundation and is Co-Chair of the Ad Council’s Advisory Committee on Public Issues. Dr. Satcher has been a Director of MetLife and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company since February 2007.
