If the closest you've ever come to a tornado is watching the "Wizard of Oz," count yourself lucky. But keep in mind that twisters aren't unique to Kansas; they've been reported in every state except Alaska.  Most often they occur east of the Rocky Mountains during the spring and summer months.* These fierce, unpredictable storms can stir up winds of 250 mph or more and leave behind a path of destruction.
