Your landlord will not replace the things you own if your apartment is damaged.

A MetLife Auto & Home renters insurance policy will.
Many renters make a big mistake: They think they don't own anything valuable, so they skip buying renters insurance. But what if your apartment burned down? Do some quick math to figure out how much money it would cost to replace your clothes, television, bed, dishes, sofas, chairs, and on and on.

Add up all those little price tags and the total could easily reach $10,000, $20,000, or much more. You can protect your possessions -- and your bank account -- with renters insurance.

Is your personal property adequately covered? Use the MetLife Auto & Home Personal Property Inventory to find out!

Renters insurance isn't expensive.
Renters insurance can cost as little as $100 a year and covers you against damage and theft. It also will provide you with personal liability protection in case someone is injured in your apartment.

We offer replacement cost. Many companies don't.
If you choose our replacement cost option and you have a loss, we will pay you the dollar amount it costs to replace your possessions today, without any deduction for depreciation. MetLife Auto & Home is proud to offer this option, which not all insurance companies do. Take a look at the potential differences and how they could impact your bank account in the event of a loss:

  • Replacement cost option. Let's say burglars steal your 5-year-old big-screen television. Under replacement cost, an insurance company would give you enough money to buy a brand-new television of similar size and make. In this example, the insurance company may determine that it will cost $1,500 to replace the TV.
  • Actual cash value option. It is true that actual cash value policies cost less than replacement cost policies, but that's because they provide less coverage. Under actual cash value, the insurance company reduces the value of each item to account for wear and tear. Think of actual cash value as the price you'd pay when shopping at a secondhand store. Sticking with our example of the stolen 5-year-old TV: Under actual cash value, the insurance company might determine that it would cost $100 (or less) to buy a similar 5-year-old TV.

Payment plans are easy and flexible.
MetLife Auto & Home offers a variety of payment plans including ExpressITSM, which deducts your payments from a checking account. There are no checks to write, and you get to pick your own billing dates.
