As a team, the clinicians at MetLife work with case managers, claimants, physicians, employers, and customers daily to ensure optimal recovery, educate on medical and disability issues, and develop medically appropriate, safe, return to work plans.

Our goal is to accurately assess the claimant's medical condition, the impact of the condition on their functional ability and their return to work prognosis. Our clinicians intervene to positively impact a successful return to work by recommending, educating and negotiating with all parties for any necessary workplace accommodations. While we do not dictate or arrange treatment, the clinician may make recommendations as to an appropriate duration of disability for a particular medical condition, or they may medically manage and intervene on a claim with the goal of return to work.

This group is primarily made up of the following positions: nurse consultants, vocational rehabilitation consultants, psychiatric clinical specialists and internal physician consultants. Relevant degrees and licenses are required along with 3-5 years of related clinical experience. Clinicians benefit from flexible work arrangements including a Monday - Friday first shift work schedule.

Continuing education is of vital importance to the disability department.  MetLife not only supports employees in pursuit of their learning goals including tuition reimbursement for related education, but also offers frequent in-house training and seminars on medical, disability and business-related topics.  We are a high performance based environment, meaning that expectations and goals are made clear, training and tools are provided to help employees meet their goals, and recognition is given to high performers.  One such recognition is demonstrated in our annual incentive plan and can be considered an important part of MetLife’s total compensation package.
