Although single parents often feel isolated, the number of single parent families continues to grow. The number of children under age 18 living with two married parents fell from 77 percent in 1980, to 73 percent in 1990, to 69 percent in 2000, and to 67 percent in 2005. Today, nearly 25 percent of children are living in single-parent homes.* Regardless of what circumstances lead to you becoming a single parent, the information provided in this article is meant to dispel some of the myths, and help you cope with some of the realities.
