Since 1986, MetLife Foundation has made grants to 59 scientists through the Awards for Medical Research in Alzheimer's Disease. The Awards provide scientists who have made significant contributions to the understanding the disease with funds to pursue their research. Two Award winners have gone on to win Nobel Prizes.

Spotlight

The MetLife Foundation-National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) Breakthrough Schools initiative honors middle and high schools with large numbers of economically disadvantaged students that are high achieving or dramatically improving student achievement. NASSP shares Breakthrough Schools’ best practices and results to inform the improvement efforts of schools nationwide.

Spotlight

To build financial and economic literacy among young people, MetLife Foundation made a leadership grant to JA (Junior Achievement) Worldwide to develop and implement JA Exploring Economics.  The new program teaches high school students fundamental concepts of macro-, micro- and international economics.  JAs in Argentina, Brazil, Hong Kong and Korea received funding to translate and culturally adapt the program.

Spotlight

To bring live performances of diverse performing arts organizations to millions of people across the U.S. and locations around the world, MetLife Foundation sponsors the tours of Ailey II, Ballet Hispanico, Dancing Wheels, the Mark Morris Dance Group, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Pilobolus Dance Theatre and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.

MetLife encourages employees to contribute time and effort to their communities. Foundation-supported programs, such as Volunteer Ventures and the MetLife Volunteer Service Awards, provide grants to nonprofit organizations for which MetLife employees volunteer. In addition, the Volunteer Project Fund assists team volunteer activities in MetLife communities in which MetLife employees, their friends and families work together for a worthwhile purpose.
