Planning For Your Dependent With Special Needs

MetLife Center for Special Needs PlanningSM helps families who have children and other dependents with special needs through the maze of legal and financial complexities surrounding planning for the future. Through education, we help secure not just lifetime care but quality of life. The MetLife Center for Special Needs PlanningSM addresses such critical issues such as:

  • How to protect eligibility for important government benefits such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid
  • Ways in which special needs trust can provide lifetime care while still preserving government benefit eligibility
  • Selecting appropriate funding vehicles to fund special needs trusts, including life insurance
  • Choosing a trustee, guardian or conservator

The MetLife Center for Special Needs PlanningSM makes sense as a voluntary benefit offering since it makes critical and valuable information available which employees and their families may not have easy access to elsewhere. 1 out of 5 Americans report a disability (president's Committee n Employment of People with Disabilities); 7 out of 10 Americans are either directly impacted by a disability or have a family member, friend or associate who has a disability (halfplanet.com) Special needs hits home for so many people, as evidenced in the fact that 7 out of 10 Americans are either directly impacted by a disability or have a family member, friend or associate who has a disability. Chances are virtually all employees will either have a child or other dependent with special needs or know someone who does.

Special needs planning is a voluntary benefit available for at no cost to Institutional customers or employees. On-site educational workshops are delivered by trained Special Needs Planners, many of whom have a child with special needs of their own and understand the logistical and emotional issues involved.
