Retirement Programs for Nonprofits

K-12 and Higher Education

Our Commitment

MetLife has been offering 403(b) and 457(b) retirement plan services to school districts and educational institutions of all sizes since 1962. From employee education to investment choices, MetLife provides comprehensive retirement services to help minimize your administrative workload and help maximize the benefits for you and your employees.

Product Platforms

We offer variable annuities that provide a diverse menu of funding options from a variety of well-known fund families. By selecting a MetLife variable annuity as a funding vehicle for your plan, you will be able to provide funding options for the most risk-averse to the most aggressive participant.

However, when it comes to retirement programs, MetLife recognizes that one size does not fit all. Because most employees prefer to have a choice of investment options, MetLife also offers a suite of new products and services for the non-ERISA market that have been designed to serve the unique investment objectives of every employee.

Additional support that will benefit your retirement program:

The final 403(b) regulations will require a greater level of employer involvement in the documentation and operation of voluntary 403(b) programs. We understand the administrative burden that many 403(b) employers now face and are prepared to help. Our comprehensive support will help you comply with the new 403(b) regulations, while also offering your employees an enhanced retirement plan.

MetLife's ComplyNowSM  Program is designed to provide employers with the tools that respond to some of the key provisions and responsibilities required of employers by the final 403(b) regulations.

The ComplyNowSM Program includes:

  • Specimen Plan Document
  • Sample Employee Communications
  • Sample Agreements
  • Contribution Limit Monitoring Software

Visit the ComplyNow Site for more information.

What really sets us apart from other providers is the direct support you and your employees receive from a dedicated, onsite Financial Services Representative (FSR). These professionals deliver targeted education and communication programs designed to maximize participation in your plan.

Your dedicated FSR will also:

  • Conduct onsite enrollment seminars
  • Meet with participants one-on-one to:
    • answer retirement plan questions
    • help complete enrollment and salary reduction forms
    • analyze financial needs
    • offer guidance for setting and achieving retirement goals

Educating employees about your retirement plan is one of the foundations for making your plan a success. Our newly-designed participant education program promotes enrollment and participation by teaching employees about the critical importance of saving for retirement and then giving them the tools they need to do so.

Through a unique combination of face-to-face meetings and workshops, the program covers topics reflecting various life stages: Plan, Invest, and Retire. Targeted programs have been developed to address those issues that are most relevant in each stage.

plan           invest           retire

Each track reflects a different stage of life and accordingly, addresses those topics that are most relevant in each stage. The tracks are as follows:

  • Plan is for new and non-participating employees and encompasses a series of seminars designed for the newer workforce. These seminars are customized to teach employees the importance of saving and investing for retirement early in their career and encourage them to enroll and plan ahead.
  • Invest guides and teaches already enrolled participants to invest intelligently. These seminars educate participants on the various investment options available in their retirement plans and help them in determining which options are the best fit for them for their circumstances.
  • Retire is a specialized stage designed to help people near or entering retirement. These seminars highlight strategies for helping to maximize retirement income and helping to prepare them for the next stage in their lives.

Over the years, MetLife has demonstrated a sustained commitment to K-12 education. We're much more than just life insurance, annuities and other types of insurance and employee benefit programs. Our work touches the lives of individuals who support students and their achievement, including school district administrators, principals and teachers. Examples of key MetLife education partnerships include:

Association of School Business Officials (ASBO International) – MetLife understands the importance of ongoing professional development for individuals who want to continuously refine and acquire new skills. We support ASBO's Bridges to the Future Program which is designed to develop the leadership capacity of new school district business managers. MetLife-funded scholarships enable individuals to attend ASBO's International's Annual Meeting and Leadership Conference, participate in professional development, and engage in ongoing networking activities.
National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) – Because MetLife recognizes the value of exemplary school leadership, we support the NASSP Principal of the Year program. This program showcases outstanding high school and middle level principals who provide high-quality learning opportunities for students and model best practices.
The MetLife Survey of the American Teacher – Since 1984, MetLife has conducted this series of surveys that bring the views of educators and stakeholders to the attention of policymakers and the public. Survey topics have changed to address key issues over the years, but the premise remains the same: to give voice to teachers and others most familiar with classroom realities and most affected by education reform.

Mutual funds and variable annuities are sold by prospectus only, which are available from your registered representative. Please carefully consider the product’s features, risks, charges and expenses, and the investment objectives and policies of the underlying investments, as well as other information about underlying funding choices. This and other information is available in the prospectus, which you should read carefully before making purchases and allocations. Investment return and principal value will fluctuate with changes in market conditions such that shares and unit values may be worth more or less than the original value when redeemed. Diversification cannot eliminate the risk of investment loss.

Like most annuity contracts, MetLife contracts contain withdrawal charges, limitations, exclusions, holding periods, termination provisions and terms for keeping them in force. Contact your MetLife representative for costs and complete details. Because tax deferral is provided by the plan, participants who invest in an annuity contract under a plan must have another reason to do so, such as a guaranteed death or lifetime income benefits.
