Benefits of Life Insurance

With life insurance, you may also have access to benefits you can use today, and services your beneficiaries can use when they need them most.

 

  • Portability: With portability, if you leave your company, you have the opportunity to take your coverage with you.
  • Accelerated Benefits Option (ABO)1: If you become terminally ill, with ABO, you’ll be able to receive a portion of life insurance in advance to minimize the financial burden of medical and other expenses.
  • Waiver of Premium: Should you become disabled, you may qualify to have your life insurance premiums waived while you are unable to work.
  • Will Preparation2: Both you and your spouse can take advantage of in-person legal services to help ensure your wishes are carried out.
  • Employee Assistance Programs (EAP)3: You and your immediate family may receive confidential, professional counseling for behavioral, health and life issues.
  • Travel Assistance4: Travel Assistance offers you and your family access to emergency services while traveling domestically or internationally and provides travel information you can take advantage of today.
  • Transition Solutions5: Offers insurance and other financial products and services to help you and your family better prepare for your future in response to benefit changing events.

  • The Total Control Account® (TCA) – Also known as a retained asset account, this life settlement option helps beneficiaries manage life insurance proceeds and provides easy and immediate access to their funds.6
  • Delivering the Promise®: Your beneficiaries can use this decision-support program to help sort details and questions around claims and important financial matters.
  • MetLife Estate Resolution ServicesSM: Allows the executor of the estate access to personal legal advice and consultation when settling the insured’s will and estate.7
 



Like most group life insurance policies, MetLife group policies contain certain exclusions, limitations, and reductions of benefits and terms for keeping them in force. Please contact us for costs and complete details.

1 The Accelerated Benefits Option is subject to state availability and regulation. The accelerated life insurance benefits offered under your certificate are intended to qualify for favorable federal tax treatment. If the accelerated benefits qualify for favorable tax treatment, the benefits will be excludable from your income and not subject to federal taxation. This information was written as a supplement to the marketing of life insurance products. Tax laws relating to accelerated benefits are complex and limitations may apply. You are advised to consult with and rely on an independent tax advisor about your own particular circumstances. Receipt of accelerated benefits may affect your eligibility, or that of your spouse or your family, for public assistance programs such as medical assistance (Medicaid), Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), Supplementary Social Security Income (SSI) and drug assistance programs. You are advised to consult with social service agencies concerning the effect that receipt of accelerated benefits will have on public assistance eligibility for you, your spouse or your family.

2 Will Preparation Services are offered by Hyatt Legal Plans, Inc., Cleveland, Ohio. In certain states, legal services benefits are provided through insurance coverage underwritten by Metropolitan Property and Casualty Insurance Company and Affiliates, Warwick, Rhode Island. For New York sitused cases, the Will Preparation service is an expanded offering that includes office consultations and telephone advice for certain other legal matters beyond Will Preparation.

3 Employee Assistance Program services provided through an agreement with MHN, Inc. MHN, Inc. is not an affiliate of MetLife and the services they provide are separate and apart from the insurance and/or services provided by MetLife.

4 Travel Assistance and Identity Theft Solutions services are administered by AXA Assistance USA, Inc. Certain benefits provided under the Travel Assistance program are underwritten by the United States Fire Insurance Company, a member of the Crum & Forster group of insurers. AXA Assistance and the Crum & Forster group are not affiliated with MetLife, and the services and benefits they provide are separate and apart from the insurance provided by MetLife.

5 Transition Solutions Specialists are Financial Services Representatives of MetLife or New England Financial, a MetLife company.

6 The Total Control Account (TCA) is not insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation or any government agency. The assets backing TCAs are maintained in MetLife’s general account and are subject to MetLife’s creditors. MetLife bears the investment risk of the assets backing the TCAs, and expects to receive a profit. Regardless of the investment experience of such assets, the interest credited to Total Control Accounts will never fall below the guaranteed minimum rate.
