South Carolina Optional Retirement Program

Welcome to the South Carolina Optional Retirement Plan Web site!

How do you imagine spending your retirement?  Relaxing on a beach? Vacationing overseas?  Fixing up the house? Whatever it may be, MetLife and the state of South Carolina can help you achieve these goals.

MetLife is proud to be an approved service provider for the South Carolina Optional Retirement Program (ORP), a salary-reduction only 401(a) program.  MetLife’s mission is to help you prepare today for a more secure tomorrow.  To meet this goal, MetLife is dedicated to providing you quality products and services to help you reach your financial goals for your retirement years.

With the mutual funds your employer has selected from MetLife’s Mutual Fund Select Portfolios (MFSP), the South Carolina ORP offers a cost-effective opportunity to help you save for retirement. The MFSP funds offered under the Plan include an array of no-load and load–waived mutual funds from well–known fund families. The MFSP is provided with a fixed account under an annuity contract.

This diverse array of funding options offers flexibility and convenience along with the following benefits:

  • No sales or transfer charges in or out of mutual funds
  • Mutual funds are priced at net asset value (NAV)
  • A competitive guaranteed minimum interest rate for the fixed account option*

*All guarantees are based upon the claims-paying ability of the issuing insurance company.

Mutual funds are sold by prospectus only, which is available from your financial services representative. Please carefully consider investment objectives, risks, charges, and expenses before investing. For this and other information about any mutual fund investment please obtain a prospectus and read it carefully before you invest.  Investment return and principal value will fluctuate with changes in market conditions such that shares may be worth more or less than original cost when redeemed. Diversification cannot eliminate the risk of investment losses.

Withdrawals are subject to ordinary income tax and before age 59½ are generally prohibited. Some exceptions apply. Where permitted, a 10% additional federal tax may apply.  MetLife Resources is a division of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, Inc., New York, NY 10010.
