METLIFE NAMED ENERGY STAR LEADER

EPA Recognition Comes as Company's Bloomfield, CT Office Becomes MetLife's 14th ENERGY STAR Property

MetLife, Inc. (NYSE: MET) announced today that it has been named to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) list of ENERGY STAR Leaders for the energy efficient management of all fourteen corporate owned and/or operated buildings in its portfolio. This designation is in addition to its Bloomfield, Connecticut office earning an ENERGY STAR rating for its superior energy performance.

The EPA’s ENERGY STAR Leaders program recognizes organizations that have improved the energy efficiency of their portfolios by 10 percent or more. MetLife’s energy management policy, as well as other sustainability initiatives, have enabled the company to reduce its energy consumption by more than 16% since 2006.

“MetLife continues to make great strides in its efforts to reduce our global carbon footprint and contribute to a healthy planet,” said John Chambers, assistant vice president, vendor sourcing and corporate services. “These latest recognitions from the EPA distinguish MetLife as a corporate citizen focused on the long-term success and sustainability of our businesses and communities. We are honored to be included on the EPA’s list of ENERGY STAR Leaders.”

The EPA recently certified MetLife’s office in Bloomfield, Connecticut as an ENERGY STAR rated facility and is the company’s 14th ENERGY STAR certified location. In order to earn this rating, the Bloomfield office underwent a complete boiler modification and was retrofitted with efficient features such as occupancy sensors in conference rooms and lighting and water fixtures designed to reduce the building’s consumption and carbon footprint

ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy that recognizes energy-efficient solutions and best management practices. Buildings holding this certification rank among the top 25 percent of efficiently operated buildings in the country.
