  • Food Bank For New York City

As the city’s hub for integrated food poverty assistance for 27 years, the Food Bank For New York City tackles the hunger issue on three fronts — food distribution, income support and nutrition education — all strategically guided by its research. Through our network of approximately 1,000 community-based member programs citywide, we help provide 400,000 free meals a day for New Yorkers in need. www.foodbanknyc.org

  • Jumpstart

Children who enter school without crucial language and literacy skills start school behind their peers and are likely to stay behind. In fact, half of children in low-income communities start first grade up to two years behind their peers! Without the foundational language and literacy skills they need to succeed most of these children will never catch up, creating an achievement gap. Jumpstart was founded on the belief that all children are born with potential and deserve the resources and support necessary to succeed in school and in life. Since 1993, Jumpstart has engaged approximately 25,000 adult volunteers to work directly with 75,000 preschool children in Jumpstart's year-long program. Jumpstart helps prevent the achievement gap BEFORE it begins. www.jstart.org

  • KaBOOM!

To help make our children happier, fitter, smarter, and more socially adept and creative, now and in the future, KaBOOM! is mobilizing individuals and communities to save play. Over the past 14 years, KaBOOM! has helped over 4,000 communities bring their playground dreams to life:
    • We lead all-volunteer, done-in-a-day playground builds that unite communities around a common cause — kids!
    • We create online platforms and opportunities for the collaborative sharing of the tools needed for any community or individual to build a playground on their own.
    • We empower advocacy and action around the importance for each child to have a safe and engaging place, as well as the time, to play.
