Financial Inclusion Commitment
In 2013, MetLife Foundation committed $200 million over five years to ensure that more people across the globe have access to the quality financial services they need to build better lives. About four years later, we are on track to meet our ambitious targets. To date, MetLife Foundation has committed over $123 million to financial inclusion efforts and has reached more than 3.5 million people globally.
In 2013, MetLife established key environmental goals, and we are on track to achieve, or have already achieved, all of them.
- Carbon Neutrality—achieved in 2016 by implementing energy efficient measures.
- Reducing energy consumption across the company’s global footprint by 10% by 2020 – on target to achieve this goal by 2020 through capital improvements and facility upgrades.
- Reducing location-based carbon emissions by 10% by 2020 – on target to achieve by 2020 by implementing energy efficient capital projects across domestic and international locations and integrating sustainability best practices.
- Require 100 of MetLife’s top suppliers to disclose their greenhouse gas emissions by 2020 – On target to achieve by 2020. In 2016, MetLife worked with 70 suppliers to disclose their greenhouse gas emissions.
2016 Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Performance Data & Reporting Guidelines
Our 2016 Global Impact Report presents MetLife’s performance on certain operation, workforce, and environmental performance indicators outlined in the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. These guidelines provide a globally recognized framework for companies to measure and communicate their environmental, economic, social, and governance performance. By adhering to this framework, we communicate in a common language with companies and organizations around the world.
