METLIFE NAMED A 2010 WORKING MOTHER 100 BEST COMPANY FOR TWELTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR
Magazine celebrates corporate America’s family friendly leaders
New York, NY - September 30, 2010 – Working Mother magazine has named MetLife, Inc. a 2010 Best Company for Working Mothers for the twelfth consecutive year. The 100 winning companies lead the way in inspiring change and diverse benefits for work-life balance.
“MetLife is so pleased to be recognized once again for our robust work-life and advancement programs,” says Lynne DiStasio, chief diversity officer, MetLife. “We recognize the importance of offering family friendly policies and a culture of flexibility—our associates are able to better manage competing demands, and the company continues to attract and retain key talent.”
MetLife’s highest rankings were in women’s issues and advancement, child care benefits and company culture, as well as work-life programs, which include flexible work arrangements, health and wellness offerings, back-up child care, associate discounts, an employee assistance program and support for mothers and pregnant women.
“With 70 percent of mothers working—and women outnumbering men in the workplace for the first time in U.S. history—companies like MetLife have been instrumental in supporting their advancement,” said Carol Evans, president, Working Mother Media.
MetLife was selected for the 2010 Working Mother 100 Best based on an extensive application with more than 600 questions on workforce, compensation, child care, flexibility programs, leave policies and more. The application also surveys the usage, availability and tracking of programs, as well as the accountability of managers who oversee them. Seven areas were measured and scored: workforce profile, benefits, women’s issues and advancement, child care, flexible work, parental leave and company culture. For this year’s 100 Best, particular weight was given to benefits, flexibility and parental leave.
