New Return-to-Work Website for Employers

NEW YORK,NY - February 17, 2011 - Managing employee absences can be complicated, especially as leave laws continually change at the federal, state and municipal levels and many companies have multiple leave policies within the organization that affect different categories of employees. A total absence management program plays an important role in easing employers’ administrative burdens and can help improve productivity. MetLife, a leading provider of employee benefits, today announced enhancements to its workplace productivity solution, MetLife Total Absence ManagementSM.

“Economic pressures continue to bring the importance of an integrated absence management program to the forefront. We are pleased to be able to offer enhancements to our state of the art leave administration system that make it easier for employers to understand the absences impacting their workforce and the bottom line, and help facilitate their employees’ safe and timely return to work experience and maximize workforce productivity,” said Paul D. Taylor, vice president, Disability Product Management, MetLife.

MetLife Total Absence Management is currently available to employers with 1,000 or more employees. Key enhancements include additional real-time, online information for Human Resource (HR) professionals and managers; expanded online leave submission capabilities for both employers and employees, with flexibility for highly customized messages; the ability for managers to subscribe to automatic email notifications for new data affecting their workforce; and greater tracking and reporting insights. For example, employers now have access to a wider range of customized reporting features that help identify patterns in employee absences, including:

  • Operational Reports – Employee-level detail to assist employers in making practical decisions about their businesses;
  • Productivity Reports – Organizational-level summary to help identify resource gaps so employers can respond appropriately to conditions; and
  • Analytical Reports – Trends and comparisons of absence types and durations to help employers make appropriate decisions on their benefit plans and employee populations.

Additionally, to help facilitate a safe, timely and medically appropriate return-to-work experience for employees after disability-related absences, MetLife has introduced a new online resource for employers. Return to Work Online, available at, offers tips, case studies, a guide and links to other resources to help employers create an effective return-to-work program for qualified employees and drive improved workforce productivity.

MetLife has been providing employers with quality disability products and services for over 50 years and is a leading disability carrier in the industry, with over $2.35 billion of premiums and equivalents in force, according to the 2009 U.S. Group Disability Survey, LIMRA International.
