VeteransFounded in 1864 to protect Civil War soldiers, MetLife has strong roots in veterans’ initiatives. We understand that when veterans leave the military they possess a wealth of valuable traits and skills—discipline, leadership abilities and a strong work ethic. Our aim is to foster a company culture that honors these great qualities and offers employment opportunities that enable veterans to transition easily into rewarding civilian careers.

From claims to sales and IT to finance, MetLife offers a variety of professional roles. And we have veteran employees succeeding in many of them. Maybe it's the culture, the work or the focus on development, but we find that veterans transition smoothly here into their new careers.

Here's what you can expect working at MetLife:

  • Integrity – We pride ourselves on a corporate culture built on honesty and integrity. It begins with our employees, at all levels, and is exemplified in the trust we build in the communities we serve.

  • Structure – We believe in working with purpose and meeting business goals consistently and accurately. That means our employees can count on the process and procedure required to get the job done, with ample support along the way.

  • Stability – In our more than 140 year history, our customers, employees and communities have come to depend on us, and that feels great. To keep up with those expectations, we invest in improving our consumer products and services, as well as the training, development and support for our people.

  • Support – As a part of our professional community, veterans are entitled to a comprehensive employee benefits package. We also provide veteran-to-veteran mentorship initiatives as well as career support and opportunities for military spouses. During deployment, veteran employees can expect continuation of many benefits and guaranteed job reinstatement or transition into a similar position upon return (up to five years).

At MetLife, our people are leading veterans' inclusion efforts. MetLife Veterans Network (MVET) is an employee-founded and employee-run resource group that's open to all colleagues who are passionate about advocating for veterans. Members donate their time to promote the goal of attracting and retaining military veterans at MetLife, as well as building a working culture that truly values veterans and their contributions.

To date, MVET has seven regional chapters throughout the country:

  • Atlanta, GA
  • Bridgewater, NJ
  • Charlotte, NC
  • Dallas, TX
  • Dayton, OH
  • Greenville, SC
  • Henderson, NV
  • Lowell, MA
  • Tampa, FL
  • Westport, CT
  • West Warwick, RI

Our commitment to veterans extends far beyond our own company. Through various funding programs, projects and grants, we are able to assist veterans in need while building a national veterans' community.

MetLife is proud to support the following initiatives:

  • Blue Star Museums – From Memorial Day to Labor Day, military families enjoy free admission to over 900 participating museums through the help of grants from MetLife and other organizations.
  • National Organization on Disability (NOD) – MetLife supports Wounded Warrior Careers, a collaborative effort between the US Army and NOD that provides intensive career guidance to severely injured soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
  • Reach Out and Read – A MetLife grant is helping this organization bring new books and developmental literary guidance to over 10,000 military families nationwide.
