Employee Engagement

MetLife employees: A force for good around the world

Employee volunteers are a vital component of MetLife Foundation's commitment to social impact. Through hands-on and skills-based volunteering, they are building healthier, more resilient communities around the world. In 2018, MetLife volunteers provided more than 99,000 hours of service, with 40 percent spent on financial health efforts.

Some examples of volunteer activities in 2018 include:

  • Building homes with Habitat for Humanity
Through MetLife Foundation’s global partnership with Habitat for Humanity International, we help low-income families secure safe and affordable housing. In 2018, MetLife volunteers in 16 countries donated more than 10,000 hours to Habitat, and MetLife Foundation contributed more than $980,000 in financial support.
  • Leveraging Employee Skills
Through a partnership with Taproot Foundation, MetLife employee volunteers leverage their expertise in marketing, communications, finance, human resources and lean management in support of nonprofit partners. Hot Bread Kitchen in New York City, which helps women develop skills to secure jobs in commercial kitchens, worked with MetLife’s lean management experts to increase the efficacy — and lower the cost — of recruitment for its “Bakers in Training” program, ensuring more women find good-paying jobs..
