FAQ

FAQs
Is there an advantage to buying group life insurance?

Yes! By applying during your enrollment or eligibility period, you can obtain coverage, subject to plan limitations, without answering detailed medical questions or undergoing a physical. Your cost of insurance is provided at competitive group rates. Paying for coverage is easier, and you won't have to worry about missing payments, since it's done through automatic payroll deductions.

Who is eligible for coverage?

Members who enroll within their enrollment or eligibility period. Spouse/Domestic Partners and children (those from birth to 26) are also eligible for coverage.

What happens if I apply after the initial enrollment or eligibility period?

Your plan allows you to update your coverage for certain life events such as marriage, the birth of a child or the purchase of a home. You are also able to increase your coverage during your annual open enrollment.

If I am a new member or have become newly eligible for Life Insurance, why should I enroll for Life Insurance now?

Now that you are eligible for the life insurance program, you have a special opportunity to apply for coverage with a simplified application process. If you do not enroll for coverage during your initial eligibility period, you can apply for coverage in the future during your company's annual enrollment period, but you may have to provide a Statement of Health for any coverage.

When will my coverage request go into effect?

Coverage requests will become effective the first of the month following the receipt and approval of your application by MetLife, as long as you are Actively at Work on that date. Coverage requests that require additional medical information and are not approved by this date will not be effective until the first of the month following approval from MetLife as long as you are Actively at Work on that date.
