Superior Claims Service

Due to the tornadoes and severe weather on November 17, 2013, the following counties in the state of Illinois were designated disaster areas:

• Champaign    • Douglas   • Fayette   • Grundy   • Jasper   • LaSalle   • Massac   • Pope
• Tazewell     • Vermilion    • Wabash     • Washington     • Wayne     • Will     • Woodford

The Illinois Department of Insurance issued Bulletin 2013-18 on November 25, 2013.  The Bulletin outlines several steps for insurers to take, including the following:

  • Insurers are requested to suspend or withdraw any cancellation or nonrenewal notice that was issued to customers in affected counties on or after November 10, 2013. For these policies, insurers should withdraw the cancellation or nonrenewal notice and reinstate the policy with no lapse in coverage.
  • Insurers should not issue any new cancellation or nonrenewal notices to affected customers until January 11, 2014 or later.
  • Insurers should extend any time period imposed under a policy provision by no fewer than 60 days (i.e., premium payment deadlines)
MetLife Auto & Home® Insurance

For all customers in the counties designated as disaster areas:
  • MetLife Auto & Home will withdraw non-renewal and cancellation notices issued on or after November 10, 2013.  But for this action, those customers would have been subject to cancellation or non-renewal after this date.
  • We will not issue any new cancellation or nonrenewal notices to affected policyholders until January 11, 2014, or a later date, if deemed reasonable. We will notify you of your new date of non-renewal or cancellation upon expiration of this exception.
