While having life insurance provided by your employer is a great benefit, it’s possible that it may not be enough to adequately provide for your family. Additional term life insurance can give your family greater financial security if you are no longer here to earn a paycheck.

The insurance you need changes as your life changes — for example, getting married, starting a family or buying a home might change the coverage you need. It may be less expensive than you think. MetLife’s group life insurance plans are an economical way for you to provide for your family with competitive group rates2 and a wide range of coverage options to choose from. Exact rates can be found in the enrollment materials provided by your employer.

With Portability3 and conversion, you can take your life insurance benefits with you without a gap in coverage. You can continue your Group Life insurance coverage with MetLife should you leave your employer for any reason. Competitive rates apply but will likely be higher than your current rates.2 MetLife will bill you directly.4
A claim needs to be filed with MetLife upon the death of the insured. Please call MetLife customer service at 866-548-7139. The claim form will be sent to the beneficiary on file. Proceeds are paid to your beneficiary through a tax-free death benefit. If you do not designate a beneficiary, claim payment will be distributed following the facility of payment provisions outlined in the certificate of insurance. For Basic Life Employee Supplemental Life claims with a benefit amount or combined benefit amount of $100,000 or less, if MetLife can verify the death through other means, the benefit may be paid without submission of a death certificate. Please note this does not apply to dependent claims, AD&D claims, foreign claims, or claims with certain causes of death.
