Boat Insurance

Whether you’re out sailing, going fishing or taking the kids tubing, protect your boat from stern to bow with boat insurance from MetLife Auto & Home.

  • With a MetLife Auto & Home boat insurance policy, you’re covered in the event of hurricanes or floods, theft, fire, sinking or boating accidents.1
  • Policies provide compensation for medical expenses, if your passengers are injured in an accident that involved your vessel, and liability protection, in the event that you’re sued.
  • Policies also include benefits like boat repair (including hull, motor, trailers, and more), coverage for uninsured/underinsured boaters, passenger protection and more!
  • We also offer boat safety discounts—you may be eligible if you’ve taken boat safety or Coast Guard courses, have protective devices on your boat, or have a diesel engine.

FAQs
What types of boat insurance do you offer?

Coverage is available for boats that are used for private pleasure and recreation. MetLife Auto & Home doesn’t cover commercial boats or chartered boats.

What types of basic boat insurance coverage does MetLife Auto & Home offer?

MetLife Auto & Home offers a wide variety of coverage options, including:

  • Boat repair. We pay both partial and full losses to your boat, including hull, motor, trailers, and boating equipment. Covered items include outboard and inboard motorboats, stern drives, jet skis, sailboats, personal watercraft and more. We also cover personal effects too, like fishing equipment or water-skis—simply add this optional coverage to your basic boat policy.
  • Passenger protection. If for any reason your passengers became injured arising from the ownership, maintenance, or use of your boat, we'd pay up to $1000 for each person under Medical Payment Coverage, regardless of fault.
  • Coverage for uninsured and underinsured boaters. This protects you and your passengers in the event you were involved in an accident caused by a boat operator who was uninsured or underinsured. Note that UB and UIB coverage varies by state and is not available in all states.
  • Liability protection. Our liability in court insurance provides coverage for bodily injury and property damage to others when the law holds you responsible. We also cover your legal fees, should you be sued and need to defend yourself.
What other types of coverage are available?

When basic coverage isn’t enough, we have additional features available, including:

  • Hurricane protection. Whenever The National Weather Service issues a hurricane advisory, we'll pay up to $250 toward hauling your boat out of the water to a protected area. You wouldn't have to worry about a natural disaster causing damage to your craft.
  • Unforeseen emergency services. Because everything breaks down at one time or another, we offer emergency services coverage, which pays $250 toward towing and labor on land or in the water, including the delivery of fuel, oil, or a battery. Higher limits are available, too.
What types of boat safety discounts and rewards does MetLife Auto & Home offer?

No worries! Your policy and coverage will continue without interruption, subject to policy terms and conditions. You'd be able to pay your insurance premiums through our EFT payment plan, by credit or debit card, through bills received by mail, or, in some cases, by pension deduction. If your premium is currently deducted from your paycheck and you go on short-term disability, like parental leave, your coverage stays in effect throughout your leave (subject to policy terms). If you were on payroll deduction and you're not receiving a regular paycheck from your employer, you'll receive a bill directly by mail.10
