A Message from Dennis White, President & CEO, MetLife Foundation
On behalf of MetLife Foundation, I am pleased to announce an exciting new mission: financial inclusion. Beginning in September 2013, the Foundation will devote significant resources to bringing vital financial knowledge, tools and support to underserved communities in Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and the United States.
More than 2.5 billion people, almost half the world’s population, live on less than $2.50 a day. And the vast majority of them live without access to basic financial services—the type of fundamental resources that can improve and protect the lives of their families, businesses and communities.
MetLife Foundation believes that affordable, accessible and well-designed financial services can transform the lives of those in need, and we have committed $200 million over the next five years to advancing this effort around the world. We have built our vision for global financial inclusion on three powerful pillars: Access to Knowledge, Access to Services and Access to Insights.
Since its founding in 1976, MetLife Foundation has provided more than $530 million in grants and $100 million in program-related investments to nonprofit organizations; I am honored to build on this legacy as we begin our new global initiative.
You will hear more about our efforts in the coming months, and we look forward to your support.
