Volunteerism

At MetLife, we are committed to helping our employees achieve success in every aspect of their lives—financial, professional, and personal. We also recognize the importance of volunteers and the impact they have on helping others lead better lives.

MetLife employees around the world donate their time and talents to help youth develop literacy skills, to teach students the importance of financial responsibility, to expand financial inclusion, and to mentor the next generation of leaders through a variety of outreach initiatives. The MetLife Foundation supports employee engagement in volunteer and charitable initiatives. Since 1999, the MetLife Foundation has awarded more than $11.9 million to support over $4,000 employee volunteer initiatives.

MetLife’s global workforce volunteers thousands of hours each year, and in 2016 our employees spent more than 90,000 hours volunteering their time. This is up by more than 25% from 2015.

Examples of their efforts include:

  • In 2016, MetLife established the first region-wide Community Service Week in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). Over 750 MetLife employees participated across the region.
  • The Taproot Foundation matches non-profits that need particular professional services with corporations that can provide those services pro bono. In 2016, MetLife expanded engagement with Taproot to provide management consulting the Grameen America, a leader in financial inclusion for low-income women entrepreneurs.
  • MetLife associates from every region volunteered time to building projects initiated by Habitat for Humanity.
  • Junior Achievement (JA) is an organization that brings together young people with community leaders who act as role models and mentors in entrepreneurship and business. MetLife won a Gold US President’s Volunteer Service Award for providing more than 15,000 volunteer hours to JA worldwide in 2016.
