FMLA & Other Leave

Explore your leave options for both expected and unexpected time away from work due to your own condition or to care for a family member

.

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) allows employees to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons. Employees who have completed twelve months of service within the last seven years and have worked at least 1250 hours during the preceding 12 months are eligible for FMLA. Evergy partners with MetLife to administer FMLA.

FMLA Qualifying Reasons

  • The birth of a child and to bond with the newborn child.
  • The placement with the employee of a child for adoption or foster care and bond with that child.
  • To care for a spouse, child, or parent with a serious health condition.
  • For a serious health condition that makes the employee unable to perform essential job responsibilities.
  • For providing military caregiver leave (up to 26 weeks) to an injured or seriously ill servicemember or veteran in which the employee is the spouse, parent, child, or next of kin.
  • For qualifying military exigencies arising out of the fact that the employee’s spouse, child, or parent is a military member on covered active duty/called to duty in a foreign country
