Group Universal Life Insurance: One coverage, two benefits
Group Universal Life combines valuable life insurance protection with an optional savings feature. In one coverage, you can provide financial protection for your loved ones in the event of your death and build cash savings that you can use during your lifetime for expenses such as a – child’s education, buying a home or living comfortably in retirement.

MetLife Group Universal Life Insurance (member paid) options includes :
- Member coverage: $25,000 - $1,200,000 in $25,000 increments is available with an online Statement of Health3.
- Spouse/Domestic Partner coverage: $10,000 - $50,000 in $10,000 increments is available with Statement of Health3 (available as a term rider to the member’s coverage).
- Dependent Child coverage: $5,000 or $10,000 coverage (available on a guaranteed issue basis and as a term rider to the member’s coverage).

Estate Planning Services4,5: Services offered by MetLife Legal Plans include Digital Estate Planning and Will Preparation Services. Employees who enroll for coverage can choose to complete wills and other important estate-planning documents quickly and easily online with access to online notary services or work one-on-one with an attorney—in-person or on the phone—to prepare or update a will, living will or power of attorney. All individuals have access to digital estate planning, but only employees enrolled may be eligible for online notary services.
Beneficiary Grief Counseling6 – Personalized counseling sessions to meet your beneficiary’s needs. Any beneficiary who receives the life insurance proceeds is eligible for up to 5 counseling sessions. These sessions can be in person or by phone with one of LifeWorks’ network of counselors who provide professional, confidential support during difficult times.

1 To the maturity age specified in the certificate. If you have ported or otherwise continued your coverage after retirement or separation from employment and the plan sponsor later terminates the group policy, cost of insurance rates may increase as a result of such termination.
2 The current crediting rate on the interest-bearing account is subject to change without notice but will not fall below the guaranteed minimum in your certificate. Guarantees are subject to the financial strength and claims-paying ability of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.
3 MetLife will review your information and evaluate your request for coverage based upon your answers to the health questions, MetLife’s underwriting rules and other information you authorize us to review. In certain cases, MetLife may request additional information to evaluate your request for coverage. Coverage will be effective in accordance with the applicable policy and certificate after approval by MetLife. Only applicants who reside in a US state, the District of Columbia, or Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico or US Virgin Islands are allowed to complete their SOH form online (where available). Otherwise, applicants will be provided with a paper SOH form. Individuals residing outside of the US or in certain US territories must be on US payroll and be approved by MetLife before being provided with an SOH form.
4 Will Preparation is offered by MetLife Legal Plans, Inc., Cleveland, Ohio. In certain states, legal services benefits are provided through insurance coverage underwritten by Metropolitan General Insurance Company, Warwick, Rhode Island. For New York sitused or principally located cases, the Will Preparation service is an expanded offering that includes office consultations and telephone advice for certain other legal matters beyond Will Preparation. Tax Planning and preparation of Living Trusts are not covered by the Will Preparation Service.
5 Digital Estate Planning with online notary is only available to individuals covered by GVUL/GUL insurance. It is not included with Basic Term Life insurance (unless Will Preparation is included with Basic Term Life coverage) or Dependent Term Life insurance and is not available for individuals residing outside the United States or in any U.S. territory. Domestic partnerships are not currently supported; however, if you have contributory life coverage and are in a domestic partnership, you may use a MetLife Legal Plans attorney for your planning needs. If you are unable to access the MetLife Legal Plans website, you can find a network attorney by calling MetLife Legal Plans at 1-800-821-6400, Monday through Friday, 8am – 8pm EST. You will need to provide your company name, customer number and the last 4 digits of the policyholder’s social security number. Group legal plans are provided by MetLife Legal Plans, Inc., Cleveland, OH. In certain states, group legal plans are provided through insurance coverage underwritten by Metropolitan General Insurance Company, Warwick, RI. Digital Estate Planning without online notary is available to all individuals residing within the United States (except in any U.S. territory) regardless of any MetLife relationship or productDigital.
6 Beneficiary Grief Counseling services are provided through an agreement with TELUSHealth. US Inc. LifeWorks is not an affiliate of MetLife, and the services TELUSHealth provides are separate and apart from the insurance provided by MetLife. TELUSHealth has a nationwide network of over 30,000 counselors. Counselors have master’s or doctoral degrees and are licensed professionals. This program is available only to beneficiaries of MetLife group Life Insurance programs. Events that may result in a loss are not covered under this program unless and until such loss has occurred.
7 Cost of insurance rates are determined using methodologies that vary by company. These rates can vary and will generally increase with age. Rates for active employees may be different than those available to terminated or retired employees. It’s important to look at all factors when evaluating the overall competitiveness of rates and the value of life insurance coverage.
The MetLife Group Universal Life Plan (GUL Plan) is a United University Professions (UUP) Member Services Trust-endorsed program. The Member Services Trust receives an amount equal to ten percent (10%) of the Cost of Insurance received by MetLife with respect to the GUL Plan to defray the costs of administering the GUL Plan. Member Services reminds you that the benefits provided under the GUL Plan are provided by MetLife and neither UUP nor the Member Benefits Trust is responsible or liable for any of the benefits or services you receive or claim thereunder.
