The insurance you need changes as your life changes — for example, getting married, starting a family or buying a home might change the coverage you need. Many people are surprised to learn that they don’t have enough life insurance to cover the many expenses their loved ones may face. It’s simple to determine the amount of coverage you need now:

A claim needs to be filed with MetLife upon the death of the insured. Please call MetLife customer service at 833-854-9624. The claim form will be sent to the beneficiary on file. Proceeds are paid to your beneficiary through a tax-free death benefit. If you do not designate a beneficiary, claim payment will be distributed following the facility of payment provisions outlined in the certificate of insurance. For Basic Life (would mention this applies to retiree life for PEBB) and Employee Supplemental Life claims with a benefit amount or combined benefit amount of $100,000 or less, if MetLife can verify the death through other means, the benefit may be paid without submission of a death certificate. Please note this does not apply to dependent claims, AD&D claims, foreign claims, or claims with certain causes of death.
