New hire enrollment opportunity

For IBMers who want more life insurance coverage, in addition to IBM-provided Group Life Insurance (GLI), new hires1 may enroll in term life insurance for themselves up to the lesser of 3 times annual base pay or $750,000, without having to complete a medical review.2 New hires can also enroll their spouse/Domestic Partner in term life insurance, up to $50,000, without a medical review.2 This special opportunity is only available if enrollment occurs within the new hire enrollment window.

New hires may also enroll themselves in the 50% or 66 2/3% Long-Term Disability (LTD) insurance plan without having to complete a medical review.2 This special opportunity is only available if enrollment occurs within the new hire enrollment window.

You also can enroll in the 401(k) Disability Protection Plan (DPP) during an IBM annual enrollment period.  This plan protects your 401(k) contributions when you’re unable to work due to disability. This benefit does not require a medical review to enroll.

Lastly, new hires may also enroll themselves and their dependents in either the IBM Dental Basic or IBM Dental Plus options.

Legal Services

The MetLife Legal Plan offers two options:

  • MetLife Legal Plans: $14.50 a month covers you, your spouse/domestic partner and dependents
  • MetLife Legal Plans Plus Parents: $20.50 a month covers you, your spouse/domestic partner, dependents and parents, ,and/or parents-in-law

Under both plan options, the following service will be covered:

  • Reproductive Assistance Law: These services cover you and/or your spouse/domestic partner for the first twenty hours of legal services and court work related to reproductive assistance matters including, but not limited to, as permitted by law: surrogacy, egg/sperm/gamete/embryo donation, and embryo adoption.

Many services are fully covered when you enroll including, buying or selling a home, wills, trusts, adoption, immigration assistance and more.

What’s OTL?

Enhanced employee-paid supplemental life and AD&D insurance through MetLife, referred to as Optional Term Life (OTL). Legal services for will preparation and estate resolution services are provided at no additional charge when you enroll yourself in term life insurance.

Travel Assistance services are also provided, at no additional charge, for you and your family when you enroll yourself in AD&D insurance.

401(k) Disability Protection Plan (DPP)

This benefit ensures your retirement savings continue in the event you no longer have income and cannot make contributions to your 401(k). All active IBMers participating in the IBM 401(k) Plus Plan may enroll in the 401(k) Disability Protection Plan during an annual enrollment period without having to complete a medical review.1

Long-Term Disability

LTD offers income replacement if you are disabled and unable to keep working. All eligible IBMers may enroll in the IBM Long-Term Disability Plan, though a medical review may be required.

Two plan options are available

  • 50% of regular monthly compensation
  • 66 2/3% of regular monthly compensation

Dental Benefits

Dental health is important to your overall well-being, so IBM offers you and your family comprehensive dental coverage.

Two plan options are available:

  • IBM Dental Basic: provides basic coverage for preventive, diagnostic and basic restorative care.
  • IBM Dental Plus: offers an enhanced benefit, covering preventive, diagnostic, basic restorative, major restorative and orthodontia care.

1 The enrollment opportunity only applies to new hires who are not considered Retiree Supplemental employees. Retiree Supplemental employees, and their spouse/domestic partner, will need to complete a medical review for all amounts of life insurance they enroll for.
