Being enrolled in a legal plan is like having a lawyer on retainer on your side. When you use a network attorney for covered services, all attorney fees are covered by your legal plan.
For $14 or $22 a month, you have access to expert guidance and tools you can use to handle the broad range of personal legal needs you might face throughout your life. This could be when you're buying or selling a home, starting a family, dealing with identity theft or caring for aging parents. The individual legal plan includes advice and consultations on a number of personal legal matters.5
Your plan will fully cover many of the most frequently needed services for addressing personal legal matters, and you will also be entitled to advice and consultations for an unlimited number of personal legal issues even for matters not fully covered by your plan, as long as they are not excluded.
Yes, you may use the legal plan to resolve as many legal issues as possible, even if they are pre-existing matters. The only pre-existing matters that are not covered are those for which you retained an attorney before becoming eligible for plan benefits.
“Fully covered” means that all attorney services related to the covered matter are covered by the legal plan when you work with a network attorney. There are no co-pays, deductibles or claim forms when you use a network attorney.
You can enroll in the Legal Plan if you are an adult resident in the US. The Legal Plan is not available to residents of Maine and Hawaii.

When you need legal help, we've made it easy for you. Our network attorneys are available in person, by phone or by email. We also offer access to online tools to complete your estate planning documents or download self-help legal forms. You can speak to our network attorneys face to face, by phone, or you can submit questions online – whatever works best for you. And for certain legal matters, your attorney can represent you in court without you having to make an appearance.
To get started, simply go to www.LegalPlans.com, create an account using your email and search for attorneys near you, or access many of the convenient digital and legal self-service tools available. Your account will also have details of our Customer Service Center, should you need help finding an attorney.
Excluded services are matters the plan specifically will not provide any coverage for. No services or consultations will be provided for the following:
- Matters involving MetLife or its affiliates, or any Plan Attorney as an adverse party.
- Any employment-related matters.
- Appeals or class actions.
- If your legal plan is sponsored by a company, matters involving that company and its affiliates are excluded.6
- Transactions involving farms or businesses, rental property for which you are the landlord, patent or copyright law, or property held for investment or rental.
- Amounts owed to third parties such as: court costs, filing fees, recording fees, fines, judgements, witness fees, or transcripts.
- Any matter deemed by MetLife to be frivolous, harassing or in contravention of the rules of ethical conduct governing attorneys.
