Your Schedule of Benefits outlines key details about your coverage, including benefit amounts and plan highlights.

Terms to know 

Here are a few important terms to understand:

  • Basic Life Insurance – The amount paid to your beneficiary if you pass away.
  • Maximum Basic Life Benefit – The highest amount your plan will pay.
  • Accelerated Benefit Option (optional) – If you’re diagnosed with a terminal illness, this option allows you to receive part of your benefit while still living.
  • Guarantee Issue Amount – The maximum coverage available without additional medical information. If you are required to submit Evidence of Insurability (EOI), visit the EOI page for more information.
  • Disability Provision – Your plan includes one of the following: 
    • Extended Death  (Standard): If you become disabled and pass away within one year,  your Life benefit is payable.
    • Waiver of Premium: If you become totally disabled and can no longer work, your Life insurance premium is waived.

Basic Life Insurance An amount equal to .5 times your Basic Annual Earnings
Minimum basic life benefit None
Maximum basic life benefit $500,000
Accelerated benefit option Up to 80% of your Basic Life Amount, not to exceed $250,000
Guaranteed Issue amount   The Guaranteed Issue Amount for Basic Life Insurance is $500,000. Any amount of Life Insurance in excess of the Guaranteed Issue Amount is subject to Evidence of Insurability.

Enhanced benefit options

  • Waiver of Premium – Waives Life insurance premium if you become totally disabled and are no longer able to work.
  • Total Permanent Disability – If you become Totally and Permanently Disabled before reaching a pre-determined age, and remain Totally and Permanently Disabled, the Life insurance benefit will be payable.
  • War Risk – If you are on assignment in war zones, MetLife has the flexibility to build this enhancement into your plan. Standardly, employees in war zones are eligible for Natural Causes Only coverage for Life. This buy-up allows you to be eligible for Basic Life and AD&D coverage.
