Sharing Our Insights

In an effort to identify and develop solutions that meet consumers’ needs, MetLife conducts and publishes thought leadership studies on critical issues, such as the future of employee benefits. By sharing our research, we seek to drive dialogue and identify effective solutions for a rapidly changing workplace and workforce.

Prominent research findings in 2018 included:
  • The Small Business Index, MetLife’s quarterly research with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, takes the pulse of small business. It goes beyond similar studies by asking thousands of small business owners and managers about the challenges they face. From access to capital to the adoption of technology to measuring the hours that owners spend working each day, the Index uncovers important trends. Its publication provides the media and policymakers with data they can highlight and use to help better the operating conditions for U.S. small businesses.
  • MetLife’s Role of the Company Survey found that employees want companies to take an active role in addressing societal issues, even when those issues aren’t central to the company’s business. When the values of employees and employers align, job satisfaction, retention and loyalty all increase dramatically, the survey showed.
MetLife’s Global Health and Wellness team also produces medical dashboard reports for our clients to identify their top health cost drivers.

These reports include a suite of analyses comparing year-over-year changes for our clients, including paid claims, incurred claims and country benchmarks in more than 35 markets. Our team works with clients to use this data to identify both diagnostic and benefit cost drivers, improve their employees’ quality of life through wellness programs, and drive employee engagement.
