ERIC STEIGERWALT NAMED TREASURER OF METLIFE

MetLife, Inc. (NYSE: MET) announced today that Eric T. Steigerwalt has been named its treasurer. In this position, Steigerwalt will have responsibility for the strategic management of MetLife’s financial resources, including capital management and managing the company’s relationships with both banks and rating agencies. He replaces Anthony J. Williamson, who has retired from the company.

"Eric’s financial acumen and knowledge of our businesses will be extremely beneficial as he assumes this new role," said William J. Wheeler, executive vice president and chief financial officer. "At the same time, I want to thank Tony for his many contributions during his 32-year career at MetLife and wish him well as he begins his retirement."

Most recently, Steigerwalt had served as senior vice president and chief financial officer of MetLife’s Individual Business segment since May 2003. In this role, he had responsibility for financial management of MetLife’s retail life insurance business, including the development of the annual financial and sales plans, financial analysis and projections, pricing oversight, expense management and other financial functions.

Previously, Steigerwalt was vice president of investor relations and played a key role in MetLife’s initial public offering in 2000. Before joining MetLife, he was vice president, investor relations at The Equitable Companies. He received a B.A. degree in economics from Drew University.
