METLIFE’S LISA M. WEBER NAMED BY FORTUNE MAGAZINE TO ITS 50 MOST POWERFUL WOMEN IN BUSINESS LIST FOR FIFTH YEAR IN A ROW

MetLife, Inc. (NYSE: MET) announced today that Lisa M. Weber, president, Individual Business, is named as one of the 2008 "50 Most Powerful Women in Business" by FORTUNE magazine for the fifth consecutive year. This year she ranked number 38.
Weber oversees MetLife’s retail business segments, Individual Business and Auto & Home. In 2007, these businesses accounted for approximately $2 billion or more than 40% of MetLife’s operating earnings.
Since 2004, under Weber’s leadership, MetLife’s retail businesses achieved a 50% increase in operating earnings. During the same time, sales distribution to reach clients has nearly doubled to include 11,000 affiliated sales people, and 160,000 points of sale through banks, brokerage firms, and independent agents and agencies. MetLife leads the industry in sales force retention.
FORTUNE ranks the women on the list based on several criteria, including earnings, revenues and other achievements, as well as size and importance of the company. Weber first appeared on the prestigious list in 2004 at number 43.
