KIPLINGER AND METLIFE UNVEIL DO-IT-YOURSELF PENSION VIDEO

Free Resource Explains How Annuities Can Provide Reliable Retirement Income in Uncertain Economy

Nearly 80 million baby-boomers will reach retirement age over the next 20 years—almost 10,000 Americans a day. With a volatile market battering 401(k)s and fewer traditional pension plans, there is growing interest in  how immediate annuities can fit into a retirement plan and provide guaranteed lifetime  income. Today, financial publisher Kiplinger unveils an educational video explaining this powerful tool. Entitled “Your Do-It-Yourself Pension”, the 27-minute video notes the types of annuities available, explains how they work, and gives guidance on how to choose one that suits particular individual or family needs.

“Annuities have a very long history but aren’t well understood,” said Knight Kiplinger, editor in chief, Kiplinger Publications. “They are not necessarily for everyone, but they can fit perfectly into some retirees’ retirement-income puzzle. This video cuts through the complexities of annuities to offer guidance in determining whether or not one makes sense for you.”

The film, created by and featuring editors of Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine, was underwritten by MetLife, which provides monthly payments to more than a million annuity owners. “Planning for a retirement in which you have enough income to pursue your preferred lifestyle, make sure your money lasts a lifetime, and leave a legacy for your loved ones can be extraordinarily challenging,” said C. Robert Henrikson, Chairman, President & CEO, MetLife. “We are proud to sponsor this video to help Americans meet their financial retirement goals with ideas that can work in these challenging times.”

The “Your Do-It-Yourself Pension” video includes insightful commentary from Kevin McCormally, editorial director of Kiplinger, Mary Beth Franklin, senior editor and retirement expert at Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine, and Kimberly Lankford, contributing editor and insurance expert of the magazine. It also features an interview with Christopher O’Flinn, president of ELM Income Group, Inc., and Dallas Salisbury, president and CEO of the Employee Benefit Research Institute.
