METLIFE RETURNS AS PRO-CYCLING TEAM’S TITLE SPONSOR

MetLife today announced its continued support as title sponsor of the elite level Project Cycling organization. This year marks the third year that MetLife, a leading provider of employee benefits, is serving as the title sponsor of the elite level squad.

“The increased popularity of bicycling, its positive impact on health and wellness, quality of life, and sustainability makes support of the sport very appealing to MetLife, and we are pleased to be connected to cycling at such a vital level,” said Richard Hong, vice president, Global Brand and Marketing Services at MetLife.

As the second most popular sporting activity in the United States, MetLife is associating itself not only with the simple pleasures of riding a bike and the thrill of road racing, but with the positive impact of cycling on the environment. Joining MetLife as a presenting sponsor will be groSolar®, the premier solar installation company in the nation. The team will race under the name MetLife Cycling powered by groSolar.

Fans will have plenty of opportunities to meet the team of elite cyclists. The team will race primarily in the eastern United States, focusing on larger National Racing Calendar events such as the Kelly Cup in Baltimore, Tour of Somerville in New Jersey and the Fitchburg-Longsjo Classic Stage Race in Massachusetts. With MetLife’s continued support, the team will demonstrate its speed and endurance beyond the borders of New England in races such as the Tour of the Battenkill (upstate New York), Superweek (Wisconsin), the National Criterium Championships (Bend, OR), and the USA Crits Speedweek (Carolinas).

“I am thrilled that MetLife will continue to sponsor our team and it is exciting to see our team grow and take on a larger calendar of racing,” described Brad Sheehan, director of the MetLife Cycling Team. “A large portion of our team is Mid-Atlantic and we will be racing in almost every state from Vermont to Georgia.”

Additionally, on April 24, the team will host the Turtle Pond Circuit Race in Loudon, New Hampshire, one of New England’s most popular early season events and a charitable fundraiser, which will benefit a local elementary school. Funds raised will support sustainable projects within the school program.

Kim Taylor, manager, Sports Marketing at MetLife added, “Our sponsorship of this elite team underscores the optimism and possibility inherent in cycling. It is a perfect opportunity for us to connect with customers and share our brand in an exciting way. We are pleased that the team is able to ride at such a high level while encouraging interaction and community involvement.”
