METLIFE CHAIRMAN & CEO COMMENTS ON BEING NAMED TO PRESIDENT’S EXPORT COUNCIL

MetLife, Inc. (NYSE: MET) Chairman, President and CEO C. Robert Henrikson issued the following statement today following the announcement that he has been named by President Barack Obama to the Export Council:

“I am honored to be appointed by President Obama to the Export Council, where I can be a voice for the financial services sector on international trade matters. MetLife has been a thought-leader on a wide range of public policy issues for many years, and we continue to be a key resource to U.S. policy-makers on financial services, benefits, protection and retirement security issues. For many years, MetLife has been an active participant and supporter of global trade. We believe that American companies, particularly those in the services sector, must be able to reach consumers who live beyond our borders. These services companies account for nearly 80% of our country’s economic output, but only 40% of U.S. exports. I wholeheartedly agree with President Obama that expediting our economic recovery and growth requires American companies and the U.S. Government to use innovative and energized thinking to remove trade and investment barriers.”
