METLIFE NAMES WINGATE HEAD OF FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RELATIONS

MetLife, Inc. (NYSE: MET) announced today that Heather K. Wingate has joined the company to lead MetLife's federal government relations office in Washington, D.C., effective October 29, 2012. She will report to Michael A. Zarcone, head of government relations.

"I'm extremely pleased that Heather is joining the MetLife team," said Steven A. Kandarian, chairman, president and chief executive officer of MetLife, Inc. "Her extensive public and private sector experience, combined with her mastery of the legislative and regulatory process, will make her a highly effective advocate for policies that promote financial security."

Wingate joins MetLife from Nomura Holding America, the Japan-based multinational investment bank and holding company, where she managed the company's public affairs office in Washington, D.C. During her tenure at Nomura, she launched and led its global Dodd-Frank Act implementation working group and developed regulatory and legislative priorities through global coordination with corporate functions and business lines.

Between 2003 and 2010, Wingate was head of federal government affairs for Citigroup. She promoted Citigroup's legislative agenda at the federal level, including Congress, the executive branch and regulatory agencies.

Before joining the private sector, Wingate was a special assistant to the president of the United States from 2001 to 2003. In that role, she served as the president's liaison to the United States Senate. Prior to this, she was the assistant United States trade representative for intergovernmental and public affairs and previously served as chief of staff to then-Senator Sam Brownback (now governor of Kansas).
