MetLife’s Commitment to Privacy
MetLife strongly believes in the responsible use of personal information we collect and is committed to protecting all information we retain. To further this commitment, we have adopted this MetLife Privacy Statement to tell you how MetLife and its U.S. affiliates (“MetLife, “we”, “our”, “us”) (other than MetLife Investment Management, LLC, whose privacy policies are available here) collect, use, share, and protect information we obtain.

This MetLife Privacy Statement applies to all personal information we process about you, including when you: (i) interact with our websites, product portals, and online applications (“Sites”); (ii) download, register, or use our mobile software applications (“Apps”); and (iii) interact with us in person or through telephone, chat, physical mail, email, fax, and social media.
For example, we process personal information about you when you:
- Apply for or obtain a MetLife product or service.
- Register and login to access your policy, account, or claim information.
- Interact with MetLife advertisements or social media messages.
- Request information about products, services, providers.
- Instruct us to perform a transaction.
- Participate in any MetLife promotion or survey.
- Request customer or technical support.
- Interact with a live call center support agent or intelligent virtual agent and interactive voice response technologies.
- Visit our facilities or office locations.
- Engage us for a potential or in a current business-to-business transaction.
This MetLife Privacy Statement only applies to the services and interactions described herein that support MetLife’s U.S. domestic operations. It does not apply to services and interactions provided by other companies or organizations to which we link to or you interact with. MetLife is, therefore, not responsible for the content or activities provided by other companies or organizations. This MetLife Privacy does not apply to the MetLife job applicants, employees, or contractors, or information that does not identify or cannot be reasonably used to identify you.
Personal information is information that identifies or reasonably can be used to identify you. We may collect from you and third parties your personal information, being the following types of personal information:
- Your name, postal address, date of birth, gender, unique personal identifier, user login id and password, email address, telephone number, Social Security number, passport information, or other similar identifiers.
- Policy, account, or claim number, bank account number, credit card number, debit card number, or any other financial information. Financial or payment information may be collected by one of our vendors or partners and, if stored, would be stored by them and not MetLife.
- Medical, vision, dental, and disability information or related claims, and insurance information.
- Video and audio information, such as images and voice recordings, where permitted by law;
- Internet Protocol (IP) address, browsing history, search history, geolocation, and interactions with our Sites, Apps, or advertisements. Your location information is collected by our Apps only with your permission through use of geolocation services. Should you choose not to permit access to your location information, some App features may be unavailable to you.
- Communications with you, such as through email, fax, text message, telephone, social media, and our “Contact Us” feature.
- Publicly available information, such as from social media services.
- Additionally, we may also collect other types of information like your occupation, hobbies, and other preferences.
Children
Our sites are not directed at nor intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that his or her child has provided us with their personal information, that parent or guardian should contact us at privacy@metlife.com. We will delete any personal information regarding a child under the age of 13 within a reasonable time. We take children's privacy seriously and encourage parents and/or guardians to play an active role in their children's online experience at all times.
Information We Collect Through Technology
We may collect and process your information through certain MetLife and third-party technologies, including artificial intelligence (“AI”), machine learning (“ML”), and generative AI tools, to enhance our ability to deliver products and services to you and improve our customer support, processes, and technologies.
When you come to one of our Sites or Apps, we may collect your IP address. An IP address is often associated with the portal you used to enter the Internet, like your ISP (Internet Service Provider), company, association, or university. At times, we also use IP addresses to study the frequency that our visitors visit various areas of our websites. We may combine this information with personal information. Finally, our websites do not respond to browser Do Not Track signals.
Cookies, Web Beacons, and Other Tracking Technologies

Network Advertisers
Advertisements managed by third parties may be placed on our websites. These companies are called 'network advertisers’. Network advertisers placing advertisements on our websites may also use cookies, web beacons, and other tracking technologies to collect information when you click on or move your cursor over one of their banner advertisements. You may not realize this information is being collected. In some cases, we may have access to information from web beacons, cookies, and other tracking technologies used by network advertisers on our sites, and this information may permit us to identify other sites that you have visited that are also associated with the network advertiser.
For more information about our ad service provider and its tracking technologies, including information about how to opt out of these technologies, please visit https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/ and https://www.aboutads.info/consumers. Once you have clicked on an advertisement and have left our websites, our MetLife Privacy Statement no longer applies, and you must read the privacy policy or statement of the advertiser to see how your personal information will be handled on their website.
Finally, on certain MetLife websites, a Cookies Banner will allow you the opportunity to manage your cookies preferences.
We use and process your personal information to the extent reasonably necessary to fulfill your requests, based on your consent, for legitimate business purposes, and as described in this MetLife Privacy Statement.
For example, we use and process your personal information to:
- Process an application for our products and administer your policy, account, transaction, or claims information.
- Authenticate your identity, enable registration through our Sites and Apps, and provide you with access to your policy, account, or claims information.
- Respond to your product or service requests.
- Provide you with information that may be of interest, including newsletters, company information, marketing materials, advertisements, promotions, or surveys.
- Manage your preferences or privacy choices.
- For other everyday business purposes, such as to operate, evaluate, analyze, and improve our products and services, product and technology development, fraud detection, and Site and App administration.
- Detecting security incidents, protecting against malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal activity.
- Provide you with technical support.
- Analyze your use of our Sites and Apps and debugging to identify and repair errors that impair existing intended functionality of our Sites and Apps.
- Comply with and enforce applicable legal and regulatory requirements, legal processes, government requests, contractual obligations, terms of use, and our policies.
We may also use and disclose any information not considered to be personal information, including aggregated and anonymized data, for any legal purposes, including analytics and assessments of business relationships and opportunities.
MetLife may share personal information with its affiliates, third parties, and service providers that we work with. We will only share personal information to help us provide a product or service to you, to improve or enhance our products or services, or for everyday business purposes, and as described in this MetLife Privacy Statement.
From time to time, we may purchase a business or sell one or more of our businesses, and your personal information may be transferred as a part of the purchase or sale. If we purchase a business, the personal information received with that business would be treated in accordance with all our privacy policies, including this MetLife Privacy Statement, if it is practicable and permissible to do so. If we sell a business, we will include provisions in the selling contract requiring the purchaser to treat your personal information in the same way required by our privacy policies. The provisions of this paragraph will also apply if we are sold as part of bankruptcy proceedings.
We may disclose any information as permitted or required by law, when we believe in good faith it is necessary for safety purposes, required for legal reporting, or to protect our legal rights or enforce our Terms of Use or any contest rules. We may also disclose information about you to our auditors, regulators, legal advisors, or to respond to a subpoena.
If you are using one of our Sites or Apps, please note that your access to and use of the Site or App may be subject to certain third-party terms and conditions and privacy policies, including but not limited to application stores, mobile software platforms, and third parties whose services you access through the Site or App. You recognize and agree that MetLife is not liable for any such third-party terms and conditions and their use of your personal information. MetLife may in its discretion make available links through advertisements or otherwise enable you to access third party products or services. Please note that while using such products or services, you are using products or services developed and administered by people or companies not affiliated with or controlled by MetLife. MetLife is not responsible for the actions of those people or companies, the content of their products or services, the use of information you provide to them, or any products or services they may offer. The fact that MetLife is linking to those products or services does not constitute our sponsorship of or affiliation with those people or companies.

If you are a MetLife customer, you may tell us not to share your personal information with our affiliates – or unaffiliated business partners as part of a joint marketing arrangement – for marketing purposes at www.metlife.com/optout.
MetLife's Global Record Retention Schedule establishes the retention periods for our records consistent with MetLife business needs and global legal and regulatory requirements. MetLife, consequently, will retain personal information only for as long as is necessary for the purpose set out in our policies, for as long as an account or relationship with MetLife is active, as needed to provide services to our customers, to the extent necessary to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations, or to comply with our Global Record Retention Schedule.
The security and confidentiality of your personal information is extremely important to us. That is why we have technical, administrative, and physical security measures and safeguards in place to protect your personal information from unauthorized access and improper use.For example, the areas of our website that enable or require you to submit personal information online use encryption to protect that information. We also review our security procedures periodically to consider appropriate new technology and updated methods. However, despite our reasonable efforts, no security measure is ever perfect or impenetrable.
You can contact your broker, agent, or employer directly or login into your account to update your personal information associated with our products and services. You can also use our online resources page to submit any changes to your contact information.
We may change this MetLife Privacy Statement from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised MetLife Privacy Statement with a new “Last Updated” date. Any changes to this MetLife Privacy Statement will become effective when posted unless indicated otherwise.
